Dr Rachel Freeman is a Research Fellow at UCL’s Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources, in the Energy Systems group. Rachel works on socio-technical energy transition modelling that will support the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
Rachel’s research covers a range of topics related to sustainability including waste prevention, the rebound effect, resource efficiency, energy and carbon management in buildings and transport, energy demand response, re-distributed manufacturing, smart meters, and the relationships between natural capital and the rebound effect. Her speciality is in applying systems thinking and systems modelling methods to a range of sustainability issues – focusing on the complexity of the economic, engineering, and political/behavioural issues important to the process of decarbonisation. Dr Freeman is a member of the policy council of the UK Chapter of the System Dynamics society.
