ABOUT THE WEBINAR SERIES
Net Zero: can we get there as a society?

This webinar series aims to promote the importance of interdisciplinary research in low carbon energy transition. In particular this series will discuss the social acceptability of pathways to a net-zero economy, as well as the role of individual and corporate behaviour in shaping low carbon trajectories.

The series of events will feature invited talks and panel discussions/Q&A. The broad scope of the series aims to attract a general audience and facilitate a proactive discussion among researchers with different backgrounds.

WHERE

4 webinars, delivered digitally via Zoom

WHEN

Fri 20 Nov 2-3pm
Tue 24 Nov 3-4 pm

Webinar Series Output

Recordings of the webinars will be uploaded here. In addition, a concrete output in the form of a short video curating key elements of the talks will be made open access and hopefully constitute useful and accessible communication material for future research in this space.

Webinar 1: Transitions to net-zero: social disparities and acceptability of mitigation technologies
Webinar 1: Transitions to net-zero: social disparities and acceptability of mitigation technologies

Can large transitions be fair for everyone? This webinar will feature short presentations and a panel discussion with Dean Rachel Kyte from Tufts University, Dr Goda Perlaviciute from University of Groningen, and Professor Nick Pidgeon from Cardiff University to discuss whether the next 30 years of reaching Net-zero economies can be inclusive at the global …

Webinar 2: Accounting for the social dimension in planning the transition
Webinar 2: Accounting for the social dimension in planning the transition

The net-zero transition requires unprecedented changes to our society and energy system. Energy systems modelling enables to compare different decarbonisation pathways, but do models reflect actual social feasibility and acceptability? This webinar will feature presentations and Q&A by Dr Rachel Freeman from UCL and Dr Piera Patrizio from Imperial College, to discuss how net energy …

Webinar 3: Readiness of negative emissions technologies: creating business models for carbon capture and storage and CO2 removal methods
Webinar 3: Readiness of negative emissions technologies: creating business models for carbon capture and storage and CO2 removal methods

Both natural (e.g., afforestation, soil carbon sequestration) and engineered (e.g., fossil and bio-energy with carbon capture and storage, direct air capture) methods to capture and sequester carbon dioxide are likely to play a key role in getting us to net zero. This webinar will feature presentations by Dr Emily Cox from Cardiff University and Professor …

Webinar 4: Climate change commitments at the corporate level: motivation and effectiveness

How sound are climate change commitments? We will conclude this webinar series with short presentations and a panel discussion with Professor Jon Gibbins from the University of Sheffield, Dr Robert Ritz from the University of Cambridge, and Dr Emily Schuckbugh from the University of Cambridge and head of Cambridge Zero, to discuss the way and …
